Digital nomad visas are designed for people who already earn remotely and want a legal way to live abroad while working for an employer or clients outside the host country. Spain, Portugal, Estonia, and Croatia all publish dedicated telework or digital-nomad routes, and the common pattern is straightforward: you usually need qualifying remote work, proof of income, and health insurance.

For recent grads and young professionals, this route only works if your income is already portable. It is not a substitute for finding local employment, and it does not erase tax, compliance, or residency questions once you begin living abroad in a meaningful way. The strategic play is to build remote income first, then choose a country whose rules, cost structure, and long-term fit support the life you actually want.
